Abbreviations and acronyms
When we use abbreviations that are not common, we will always state their full meaning, followed by the abbreviation. For example: ‘Local Development Plan (LDP)’. After introducing the meaning, we can now refer to it in its abbreviated form for the rest of the content.
We do not use ‘e.g’ or ‘i.e’. Use ‘for example’ and ‘such as’ instead.
We do not use full stops in abbreviations:
- UK (not U.K.)
- BBC (not B.B.C.)
- NHS (not N.H.S.)
This includes people’s titles, such as:
- Cllr
- Dr
- Mr
- Ms
Abbreviation plurals have no apostrophe:
- PDFs
- DOCs
