Dates, times, phone numbers and addresses
It is important that dates, times, phone numbers and addresses are formatted clearly and correctly.
If necessary, we only use specific dates and times in our web content. We avoid using imprecise words and phrases, such as “recent” and “last year”.
We write dates in the following style:
- on 1 August
- Friday 1 August 2023
When referring to decades and centuries, we use:
- 1990s
- 2022 to 2023 – ‘to’ instead of hyphen or slash for accessibility
We write times in the following style:
- 3pm to 7pm (not 3pm-7pm)
- 5:30pm (not 1730hrs)
- 6 hours 30 minutes
- midday or 12pm (not 12 noon or noon), and
- midnight (not 00:00)
To avoid confusion around deadlines we will use 11:59pm instead of midnight.
We write numbers in digits and not words.
